OK, so big error here.  I’ve done so much since the last post, mostly concerning the winter hols in general.  But that is not the reason for my new entry here, merely my excuse for the lack of one so far.  Today’s little dabble into philosphical musing involves a misuse/misunderstanding of the word misunderstand.

Now see, it’s like this.  Most people say that the dark is just misunderstood.  Think about the two parts of that word; “mis” and “understood”.  You “miss the understanding”, understanding it to be something else.  I think that’s a flaw, the way the word is used, most exceptionally in that case.  I even looked it up in the dictionary, where it is defined as “understanding incorrectly; misinterpret” not “to not understand”

Back to the original phrase “the Dark is just misunderstood”.  The phrase implies, through use of the word misunderstood that there is an understanding – granted, one that is wrong, but an understanding nonetheless. Remember that the definition provided the term misinterpret – there was an understood basis from which to gain a greater understanding.  And therein lies my issue.  The dark is not misunderstood, because there is no comprehension of what it is other than being the opposite of light.  Trying to feed me my own words, some of you might say that is the basis of understanding because we understand the Light.

That is also, given that it is the exact opposite of the phrase I am faulting, false.  In fact, to use these terms correctly, I would say that it is the Light that is misunderstood, and the Dark simply not understood at all.  Now is that conclusion understandable? Or do I have to keep saying “understand” in some form or other?
